THE CEASEFIRE IS FAILING. CANADA MUST ACT NOW FOR GAZA.

Six months into the Gaza ceasefire, it is clear the agreement is not holding.

More than 700 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, including at least 180 children. Conditions are deteriorating, with growing concerns about displacement and annexation.

Humanitarian access remains dangerously limited. Only around 100 aid trucks are entering Gaza each day — far below the 600 agreed upon. Key crossings remain effectively closed, fuel is restricted, and essential supplies are blocked. Hospitals are still not fully functioning, and access to safe water remains below emergency levels.

At the same time, food prices remain far above pre-crisis levels, and humanitarian aid is being sidelined.

The cost of rebuilding Gaza is now estimated at $97 billion, according to the EU, UN and World Bank — yet large-scale reconstruction cannot begin under current restrictions.

Canada must act now to uphold international law, protect civilians and ensure meaningful humanitarian access.

Canada must:

  • Demand full humanitarian access, including the removal of barriers preventing life-saving aid
  • Protect humanitarian organizations, including recognizing Palestinian Authority registration and opposing restrictions on NGOs
  • Commit funding at the scale needed for reconstruction, in line with the estimated $97B required
  • End arms transfers that risk contributing to violations of international humanitarian law
  • Suspend its free trade agreement with Israel
  • Champion accountability, including supporting independent investigations into violations of international law

A ceasefire must be more than a pause in violence. It must lead to lasting peace, justice and the protection of human rights.
