DEMAND THAT CANADA UPHOLD ITS COMMITMENT TO INTERNATIONAL LAW AND PEACE
The situation in Gaza and the West Bank is devastating. There is no doubt that genocide is being committed in Gaza. As Israel continues to block life-saving aid from entering Gaza, civilians are facing unimaginable hardship. At least 64,000 people have been killed in Gaza alone, and famine has been declared in the Gaza Governorate. While in the West Bank, attacks are also escalating, and families are suffering from violence and forced displacement.
Canada’s inaction in the face of this genocide makes it complicit. Statements of concern must be followed with decisive action to stop the spread of famine and the persistent violations of international law. Canada must take action to stop the displacement of civilians and ensure humanitarian aid to Gaza’s starving population is restored. One immediate action Canada must take is to stop the flow of all direct or indirect arms and arms components to Israel. The government must also work to end the violations and dispossession in the West Bank.
By signing this letter, you are urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to take decisive steps to apply restrictive measures including cancelling existing permits allowing the sale of arms and arms components, including through the US, used to perpetuate violence against Palestinians in Gaza, suspend the Canada Israel Free Trade Agreement, push for principled humanitarian access to Gaza, and stand up for the rights of Palestinians under international law.
Now is the time to act. Palestinians have a right to exist. Millions are suffering, and Canada's leadership is crucial.
