CANADA'S INEQUALITY IS GROWING. AND THE TAX SYSTEM IS PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Tell Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne: Tax extreme wealth and fix a broken system.

In 2025, the 40 richest Canadians added nearly $95 billion to their wealth, while millions struggled to afford food, rent, and basic needs.

  • The richest 1% hold $3.9 trillion in wealth, nearly as much as the bottom 80% combined, while the bottom 40% hold just over 3%
  • 4 million Canadians are food insecure
  • 1.4 million children live in poverty

At the same time, income from wealth is taxed more lightly than income from work. This means that the richest often pay a smaller share of their income than ordinary Canadians.

This System Isn’t Fair

Loopholes and offshore tax havens allow extreme wealth to grow faster than it is taxed.

The result: wealth concentrates at the top while everyday costs rise for everyone else.

We Can Fix It

A fairer tax system could include:

  • A tax on extreme wealth
  • An excess profits tax on corporations
  • Closing loopholes that favour wealth over work

Together, these could raise $40 billion a year to invest in:

  • Housing
  • Child care
  • Health and mental health services
  • Income supports
  • Climate action

Canadians deserve a tax system that works for everyone.

Send a message to Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne: Tax extreme wealth and make the system fair.
